2022 Census of Population and Housing: 3rd Release

June 19, 2026

The Bahamas National Statistical Institute (BNSI) has released the 2022 Census Disability Report, the third official release from the 2022 Census of Population and Housing. The report provides a comprehensive analysis of disability across The Bahamas, examining demographic, educational, economic, and housing characteristics of persons living with disabilities. The findings are based on internationally recognized Washington Group disability measures and cover New Providence, Grand Bahama, Abaco, and the Family Islands.

Among the key findings, 38,551 Bahamians aged five years and older were identified as living with a disability, representing 10.3% of the population in that age group. Women accounted for 57.1% of the disabled population, while men represented 42.9%. The report found that visual impairments were the most commonly reported disability, followed by mobility and memory-related challenges. Disability prevalence increased significantly with age, highlighting the importance of accessible healthcare, infrastructure, and social support systems for an aging population.

The report serves as an important resource for policymakers, researchers, educators, healthcare providers, and advocacy organizations working to improve inclusion and quality of life for persons with disabilities throughout The Bahamas
